Why, it has total relevance.

If one's duty in the Department of Corrections is to process the payroll, then one's comments on the causes of criminal activity would be somewhat weaker critically than if one's duty is sociological research.

Ok, with that answer...what would be a just sentence then? I mean the guy got more time, was that gonna stop him??? No question there are some horrible, horrible people (and I struggle to use that word in reference to some of them) but I mean Red Onion and Wallens Ridge were among the highest levels of 'bad', but even being in places like that didnt stop them, so sometimes you have to realize you're not gonna change some people.

Well the particular inmate in reference already had life(for several killings) and was talked into doing this by a fellow inmate who had less time. All involved should have got the death penalty for attempting to murder an officer....if the inmate who done the stabbing in the first place would have received the death penalty to begin with(which he deserved) then it never would have happened anyway.

It doesn't take sociological research to back up my statements...it takes common sense and knowledge of what sentences inmates are getting in relationship to their crimes and compare that with what they were getting for those crimes generations ago and also the inmate comfort level of the penetentiaries now compared to years ago. As crime rates continue to rise per capita it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that maybe our judicial system isn't as tough on criminals as it should be and maybe our prison system isn't as tough on them as they should be because the rate of recidivism (inmates who complete their sentence and make parole but end up getting locked up again)keeps rising year after year with continued calls for less capital punishment from activist groups and extremists and overflowing prison population.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that if you were a woman or young boy for that matter who had been raped then you would probably agree with justafan on that.

I wasn't referring to only "violent crimes" I stated that the crime rate continues to rise and that violent criminals were receiving softer sentences than they were in prior generations...I didn't see anything about drug or gang related crimes mentioned. I also didnt see anything about 03, 04 or 05 and I didnt see anything about the rate of recidivism which continues to rise. I consider the 90's still in this generation and I point out that i was referring to the prior generation when talking about our influx of crime due to the fact that even in 02 the violent crime rate was quadruple what it was in the 60's...a few modest gains each year is to be expected when the rate was so astronomically high in the early 90's and when you consider what crimes aren't reported or investigated due to the understaffed world of law enforcement up through 9/11.

Looks like im not the only "nut" on here that believes there is no where in society for rapists and murderers. GCdevil22....if you had a daughter, and i doubt you even have a family yet, i just wonder what your reaction would be if someone violently raped her....Oh lets put him in jail and rehab him, he would be a great asset to society....please...I say hand him by his testacles and put a bullet between his eyes, and if you dont have the nerve to do it, there are plenty that would line and do it for you.

oh there would be no bullet between any man's eyes that messed with my kid.....any man that hurts my kid would pray for death, I would make him wish every waking moment that he was dead. Contrary to certain government papers I think cruel and unsual punishment should be allowed in certain situations
